2011 Lupus Foundation Sustainer Award Presented June 9th at Cocktails for a Cure

This year the Lupus Foundation will present John M. Greene, President/CEO of ETS International with the prestigious 2011 Sustainer Award for his leadership and dedication to those living with lupus and whose presence makes a difference in the New England lupus community. The award recognizes his time and support of Foundation activities while inspiring others to join in the Foundation’s important work. The proceeds from this event fund vital medical research, educational programs and continued public awareness of lupus.
What is Lupus?
Lupus is a chronic disease in which the immune system attacks normal healthy tissue resulting in inflammation of various parts of the body. It can be debilitating and even fatal. Lupus most often targets women in the prime of their lives (ages 15-45) and disproportionately affects African-American, Latino and Asian women. Scientists suspect that lupus is caused by genetic and environmental factors. Some common symptoms of lupus are joint pain, skin rashes, kidney dysfunction, lung, heart, and brain disease.
There is no known cure, but there is tremendous excitement in the scientific community regarding progress in lupus research.
The Lupus Foundation New England
The mission of the Lupus Foundation New England is to empower people with lupus and provide hope for a cure. The Foundation serves as a leading resource of education and support in New England for people with lupus; partners with lupus research organizations to fund vital scientific research that will lead to better treatments and a cure of the disease; and promotes awareness by educating the public on the impact of lupus on the individual and family.
